As we all head out for a wonderful time with family and friends, let us also remember that the Holiday Season is known for being the deadliest when it comes to driving distracted or under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Safety Traffic Administration is partnering with local law enforcement to launch a Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign this holiday season. Running from Dec. 14 through Jan 1, this campaign seeks to educate people on the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

CONSIDER THESE HOLIDAY DRIVING STATISTICS:

4,400 people were killed in drunken driving-related crashes during the month of December from 2016-2020.

The average number of traffic deaths over the last six New Year’s Days is almost 12% GREATER than comparable non-holiday periods, according to the National Safety Council.

37% OF TRAFFIC FATALITIES during the Christmas holidays from 2010 to 2018 involved alcohol.

Drunken driving is illegal in all 50 states, but 11,654 people died in drunken driving crashes in 2020.

100% OF CRASHES caused by drunken and drug impairment are preventable.

IMPORTANT TIPS TO KEEP YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES SAFE!

  • Never drive if you have had any alcohol.
  • Plan a safe and sober ride home before drinking.
  • Commit to being 100% sober if you are a designated driver.
  • Don’t let your friends drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Contact local law enforcement immediately if you see an impaired driver on the road.

May you enjoy a safe Holiday! All the best, Your VANTREO team.
